NHP-17

The draft of the policy from 2015 was passed by the government in 2017 and is called the National Health Policy, 2017.

Priority actions to improve environment for health:

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Balanced healthy diets and regular exercise

Addressing tobacco, alcohol and substance abuse.

Yatri Suraksha to reduce death due to accidents.

Nirbhaya Nari for action against gender violence.

Reduced stress and improved safety in work places.

Reducing indoor and outdoor air pollution.


Specific quantitative goals and objectives

Increase life expectancy from 67.5 to 70 by 2025

Reduce infant mortality rate to 28 by 2019

Reduce neo-natal mortality to 16 and still birth rate to "single digit" by 2025.

Reduce MMR to 100 by 2020.

Achieve elimination of lymphatic filariasis by 2017.

Increase utilization of public health facilities by 50% by 2025.

Antenatal care coverage to be sustained above 90%

More than 90% of the newborn are fully immunized by one year of age by 2025.

Access to safe water and sanitation to all by 2020 (Swachh Bharat Mission)

Increase health expenditure to 5% of GDP by 2025


Other provisions in this policy include the NEET exam for UG, increased thrust in HIV-centered communities for treatment and diagnosis, establishment of nursing schools in every district and food safety.
