Boerhave Syndrome

Full thickness spontaneous rupture of esophagus.
Left posterolateral tear.
Ruptures into the pleural space.
Occurs due to barotrauma,as a result of vomiting against closed glottis.

Mecklers traid: pathognomonic of Boerhave.

Vomiting/Retching.
Retrosternal Pain.
Surgical Emphysema.(Air in subcutaneous space)

Subcutaneous Emphysema - Hamman's Sign
Auscultatory finding of pneumomediastinum,can hear cracking sound of air with every heart beat.
Akin to sound of crow walking on snow.
